This is a remarkable fusion of patterns: the regular positioning of trees, all presumably planted at the same time and now roughly the same height; the random but remarkably similar branching of trunks and limbs; the geometric cast of shadows as sunlight angles through trees so spaced and grown. Even though the lone human figure in the image is very small, the conjunction of contrived and uncontrived elements makes this photograph a visual essay on how people may imprint themselves consciously on the natural world.
